Filing in context

The Computer is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 42 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 28 Toyota notifications from 2022 in this archive. For scale, 1,694 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 9 months.

Defect

In the hybrid system, the fault-detection control software is incorrect. During high-load operation such as rapid acceleration from very low speed, if a component in the boost converter circuit is damaged, the system may fail to transition to fail-safe control mode. As a result, a warning lamp illuminates, the hybrid system shuts down, and the vehicle may become inoperable.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, reprogram the fault-detection control software to the corrected specification. If, after reprogramming, a circuit component is subsequently damaged and the warning lamp illuminates, the power converter module will be replaced at no charge.
