Filing in context
The Wiring is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 236 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 54 Isuzu notifications from 2012 in this archive. For scale, 4,633 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 10 months.
Defect
On transit buses, the waterproofing treatment at the wiring connector of the exterior door open/close switch is improperly applied, allowing water to penetrate the wiring. Continued use in this condition causes the wiring to corrode and develop a broken wire. In the worst case, both the exterior door open/close switch and the driver's seat door open/close switch may become unable to operate the door.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the waterproofing condition at the exterior door open/close switch wiring connector. On vehicles with inadequate waterproofing, apply the corrective waterproofing treatment. On vehicles showing wiring corrosion, repair the wiring.
