Filing in context
The Computer (Powertrain) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 15 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 33 Isuzu notifications from 2014 in this archive. For scale, 3,152 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 7 months.
Defect
On route buses equipped with an automatic transmission, the transmission control unit has insufficient thermal durability. This causes cracks to develop in the solder securing internal components within the unit. Continued operation allows the cracks to propagate, leading to an open-circuit condition and transmission shift faults. In the worst case, the tires may lock at low speed or the engine may become impossible to restart.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, the transmission control unit will be replaced with the corrected/revised part.
