Filing in context
The Door is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 103 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 54 Isuzu notifications from 2012 in this archive. For scale, 2,619 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 10 months.
Defect
On transit bus glide-slide doors, the door shaft rotation axis may be eccentric. Repeated opening and closing of the door in this condition causes insufficient lubrication inside the door arm ball joint, leading to ball joint seizure. In the worst case, the door may become unable to open or close.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, measure the eccentricity of the door shaft rotation axis. On vehicles where the eccentricity exceeds the specified limit, replace the ball joint with the corrected part.
