Filing in context
The Fuel Pump is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 57 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 15 Toyota notifications from 2011 in this archive. For scale, 129 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 8 years and 5 months.
Defect
Insufficient seal performance evaluation accounting for gasket variation at the check valve fitting of the engine high-pressure fuel pump allowed stress relaxation in the gasket during extended use, reducing check valve clamping force on some units. Continued use may allow fuel to leak along the threaded fitting.
Corrective action
Replace the check valve and gasket on all vehicles with corrected parts.
