Filing in context
The Brake Light is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 6 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 19 Honda notifications from 2010 in this archive. For scale, 1,593 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 months.
Defect
The switch case of the rear-wheel brake light switch is improperly molded, allowing the internal movable contact to travel beyond its operating range and fail to return. This may cause the brake light to remain continuously illuminated. Continued use in this condition may cause the brake light bulb socket to melt, creating a continuity fault and causing the brake light to stop illuminating entirely.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the brake light illumination status. If the light is continuously on or fails to illuminate, replace the rear brake light switch with a non-defective part and replace the bulb socket and bulb with new parts. In all other cases, replace the brake light switch with a non-defective part.
