Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mitsubishi & Nissan.
This is the only filing in the archive that cites the Other (passenger equipment) as the affected component. This filing is one of 31 Mitsubishi notifications from 2010 in this archive. For scale, 3,708 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 10 months.
Defect
On welfare vehicles equipped with a hydraulic wheelchair lift, the floor-level detection switch has insufficient dust resistance, allowing sand and other foreign matter to accumulate around the switch. In addition, the return hose that routes oil seeping from the hydraulic cylinder back to the reservoir tank is damaged by repeated bending during lift operation, and may drip oil onto the switch. The dripping oil promotes the ingestion of sand and foreign matter around the switch, causing the switch to malfunction. As a result, the automatic stop function that halts the lift when it reaches floor level fails to activate, the lift transitions to the stow cycle, the platform tilts, and the wheelchair may fall over inside the vehicle cabin.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the floor-level detection switch with a corrected part and install a dust-protection cover over the switch mounting area. Additionally, reposition the return hose and replace it with a corrected part made of a revised material.
