Defect
On vehicles equipped with a regenerating diesel particulate filter (DPF), operating under light-load conditions—such as low-speed driving or frequent engine stops—triggers extended automatic DPF regeneration cycles. During regeneration, diesel fuel injected into the engine mixes into the engine oil at a rate greater than anticipated. If operation continues in this condition, the fuel-contaminated oil is drawn through the blowby gas passage into the intake manifold and burned in the cylinders, producing abnormal noise and white smoke. In the worst case, engine speed may increase uncontrollably, the engine may stall, and the vehicle may be unable to restart.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, the following measures are implemented: the engine control unit is replaced with a corrected unit programmed to switch to manual regeneration during low-speed operation; inspection items covering repeated low-speed or frequent-stop operation are added to the owner's manual and maintenance log, and the caution label affixed near the instrument panel is updated with revised DPF handling instructions and a supplementary guide is distributed. As an interim measure pending full supply of corrected units, owners are notified by direct mail to inspect engine oil level and replace the engine oil if it has risen above the replacement threshold.

状況
再生制御式ＤＰＦ（ディーゼル微粒子除去装置）を装着した車両において、低速走行、頻繁なエンジン停止等のエンジンに軽負荷な状況で使用を続けた場合、ＤＰＦの自動再生（捕集した微粒子の燃焼除去）を長時間行う制御であるため、再生するためにエンジン内に噴射する軽油が想定以上にエンジンオイルに混入する。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、軽油の混入したオイルがブローバイガスの通路を経由して吸気管に吸入されシリンダー内で燃焼するため、異音、白煙が発生し、最悪の場合、エンジン回転の上昇、エンジン停止及び再始動不能となるおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、以下の対応を実施する。 ・エンジン制御コンピュータを低速走行時等には手動再生に移行する制御に変更した対策品と交換する。 ・低速走行、頻繁なエンジン停止等を繰り返す場合の点検項目について、取扱説明書及びメンテナンスノートに追記するとともに、計器板付近に貼付しているコーションラベルを変更する。また、再生制御式ＤＰＦの取扱い上の注意事項について、取扱説明書に追記するとともに、簡易説明書を配布する。 なお、対策品の全数供給に時間を要するため、暫定措置として、使用者にダイレクトメール等でエンジンオイル量の点検を啓発し、交換基準レベル以上になっているものはエンジンオイルの交換を実施する。
