Filing in context
The Spring / Air Suspension is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 27 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 49 Mitsubishi notifications from 2008 in this archive. For scale, 2,226 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 2 months.
Defect
The mounting structure between the rear axle air spring and the leaf spring is incorrect, allowing the mounting bolts to loosen during operation on rough roads or over uneven surfaces. Continued use may cause the mounting bolts to deform and fracture, and in the worst case, the air spring may sustain damage.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the air spring and leaf spring with corrected parts. Because supply of the corrected parts will require time, as an interim measure all vehicles will be inspected; any air spring found to be damaged will be replaced with a new part and subsequently replaced with the corrected part. Additionally, vehicle operation advisories will be issued to owners.
