Filing in context
The Drive force transmission is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 5 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 59 Isuzu notifications from 2007 in this archive. For scale, 4,227 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 6 months.
Defect
In vehicles equipped with a power take-off (PTO) unit, the bearing between the countershaft and the PTO gear inside the transmission has insufficient strength. During PTO operation, this bearing may fracture. If use continues, drive force is transmitted to the axle drive shaft and, in the worst case, the vehicle may begin to move while the PTO is engaged.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the transmission, propeller shaft, and PTO with corrected parts. For vehicles where corrected parts cannot be installed, replace the vehicle.
