Filing in context
The Fuel Hose / Pipe is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 62 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 22 Toyota notifications from 2007 in this archive. For scale, 790 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 years and 1 month.
Defect
The bend location on the fuel pipe relative to the pipe material weld is incorrect, creating excessive stress at the weld joint. Trace corrosive components in the fuel act on this stressed area, causing microscopic cracks to form. Continued use allows fuel pressure fluctuations to propagate these cracks until, in the worst case, fuel leaks.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the affected fuel pipe with a corrected part.
