Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Lexus & Toyota.
The Fuel Hose / Pipe is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 62 of its 4,890 filings. This is the only Lexus notification from 2007 in this archive. For scale, 241 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years.
Defect
In the engine fuel system, the bend position of the fuel pipe relative to the pipe material weld is improper, causing elevated stress at the weld joint. Trace corrosive components present in the fuel act on the stressed weld, allowing micro-cracks to form. Continued use allows fuel pressure cycling to propagate the cracks until, in the worst case, fuel leaks from the pipe.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the affected fuel pipe with a corrected part.
