Filing in context
The Brake lights is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 2 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 15 Honda notifications from 2006 in this archive. For scale, 247 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 5 months.
Defect
The electrical terminal geometry of the brake light switch is improper, resulting in insufficient contact between the switch terminal and the wiring-side connector on some vehicles. Continued operation allows vibration to wear the contact surfaces of the brake light switch, causing poor electrical continuity. In the worst case, both the brake lights and auxiliary brake lights may fail to illuminate.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the brake light switch with a corrected part and inspect the wiring-side connector. If the wire insulation shows discoloration, replace the wiring-side connector and associated wiring with new components.
