Issue

The control unit of the electric power steering (EPS) system has inadequate performance characteristics, causing the output voltage of the motor angle detection circuit within the unit to fluctuate. This instability corrupts the angle detection signal and triggers the fail-safe function. As a result, the EPS warning lamp illuminates, power assist shuts off, and steering effort increases.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, the angle detection signal of the EPS control unit is inspected. Any unit whose signal falls outside the inspection standard is replaced with a serviceable EPS control unit.
