Defect
The stator lead wire is routed improperly in the electrical generator. As the vehicle flexes during operation, the wire repeatedly bends at the point where it exits the generator. Continued use in this condition causes the lead wire to develop a broken wire, which can result in the headlights and tail lamps failing to illuminate, or the engine stopping and being unable to restart.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reroute the stator lead wire to increase slack at the generator exit point. Where slack is insufficient and the wire is already damaged, replace the complete stator assembly with a new unit.
