Filing in context
The Other (Fuel System) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 32 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 16 Suzuki notifications from 2007 in this archive. For scale, 577 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 5 months.
Defect
The fuel tank cap and filler neck are incorrectly dimensioned, causing the filler neck to swell from fuel contact. This swelling makes the fuel tank cap increasingly difficult to tighten and may prevent it from sealing properly. Continued use allows fuel to leak from the filler neck, which may ignite from static electricity or other ignition sources, resulting in a vehicle fire.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the fuel tank cap with a corrected part. As a static electricity countermeasure, replace the tightening bolts on the under-seat storage box with corrected parts, add insulating covers to those bolts and the rear cargo bed, apply a resulting label, and reposition the dust seal on the under-seat storage box from the rear-facing to the front-facing orientation.
