Defect
The wiring terminal of the DC-DC converter, which charges the auxiliary battery, is improperly designed. Extended use under high electrical load conditions — such as cold weather operation — allows oxides to form at the crimped terminal connection, generating heat and causing a disconnection. This prevents the auxiliary battery from charging. In the worst case, the engine and electric motor may shut down while driving and cannot be restarted.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, verify the serial number of the DC-DC converter. On affected units, replace the wiring with the corrected part.
