Defect
Inadequate protection of the IC (integrated circuit) inside the engine control computer allows electrical noise generated during wiper operation to damage the IC. This results in insufficient control of the starting system, causing the starter to continue rotating, or the engine to stall and fail to restart. In addition, the brake warning lamp may remain illuminated.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the engine control computer with a corrected part that incorporates an additional protection circuit for the IC.
