Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Hino & Toyota.
The Suspension Arm/Rod is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 24 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 34 Hino notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 3,449 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 years and 9 months.
Defect
The ball joint socket on the suspension lower arm has insufficient strength. Repeated driving over uneven road surfaces caused by snow accumulation or ice causes cracks to develop in the socket. Continued use allows the cracks to progress until the ball joint separates from the lower arm, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the lower arm with a corrected part.
