Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 6 manufacturers: Hino, Isuzu, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan & Toyota.
The Frame is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 39 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 34 Hino notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 4,078 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 months.
Defect
When the spare tire carrier was relocated to the rear of the vehicle, the newly installed bracket has insufficient strength. Vibration during driving causes cracks to develop in the bracket. If use continues, in the worst case, the bracket fractures and the spare tire detaches from the vehicle, creating a hazard to other traffic.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the affected bracket with a corrected part.
