Filing in context
The Drive force transmission is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 5 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 50 Nissan notifications from 2004 in this archive. For scale, 1,097 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 6 months.
Defect
On four-wheel-drive vehicles, the torque transmitted through the front propeller shaft to the front differential exceeds the clamping capacity of the connecting bolts, allowing the bolts to loosen. This produces abnormal noise. Continued operation can result in all of the connecting bolts loosening completely, causing the front propeller shaft to separate.
Corrective action
TA-GNF50 and UA-GNF50 vehicles: Replace the connecting bolts, the front propeller shaft, and the front differential companion flange with corrected parts. GH-NV35 and GH-NM35 vehicles: Replace the connecting bolts with new parts, torque them to the specified value using the prescribed method, and affix a sticker to the front propeller shaft describing the correct torque procedure.
