Filing in context
The Brake light is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 5 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 50 Nissan notifications from 2004 in this archive. For scale, 3,679 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 months.
Defect
During vehicle assembly, an inappropriate lubricant was applied to the brake light switch. Over time, components of the lubricant oxidize, increasing contact resistance at the switch terminals and causing a continuity fault. As a result, the brake lights may fail to illuminate.
Corrective action
Replace the affected switch with a new unit on all vehicles.
