Defect

In the engine compartment, some engine control wiring harnesses are routed improperly, allowing the wiring to contact the mounting bolts of the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve. Continued use causes heat from the EGR valve to melt the wire insulation, creating a short circuit between the bolt and the wire core. In the worst case, the engine stalls and cannot be restarted.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the wiring mounting bracket and clip with corrected parts. Any damaged wire protection cover must also be repaired.
