Defect
The oil supply passage to the automatic lash adjusters in the cylinder head was machined incorrectly, leaving metal chips that restrict oil flow. This produces abnormal valve tapping noise. In the worst case, the camshaft seizes and the vehicle becomes inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, check for abnormal valve tapping noise. Replace the cylinder head with a non-defective unit on any vehicle exhibiting abnormal tapping.
