Defect
The wiring routing for the shift mode selector switch is improperly arranged, allowing the exposed conductor at the wiring terminal to contact the shift control lever. If contact occurs, the wiring short-circuits, blowing the fuse and causing shift shock. This also results in the shift position indicator lamp and the reverse lamp failing to illuminate.
Corrective action
Inspect the clearance between the wiring and the shift control lever on all vehicles. On vehicles with insufficient clearance, reorient the terminal to establish adequate clearance. If the wiring is damaged, replace the complete shift mode selector switch assembly with a corrected part.
