Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Isuzu & Nissan.
The Muffler is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 8 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 40 Isuzu notifications from 2004 in this archive. For scale, 3,683 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 6 months.
Defect
On vehicles retrofitted with an additional catalyst to comply with diesel emission regulations enforced in the Greater Tokyo Metropolitan Area (Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo, and Kanagawa prefectures), the exhaust pipe forward of the main muffler has insufficient strength to withstand engine vibration. Continued use may cause the exhaust pipe to fracture, resulting in increased noise. Note: The same corrective action will be applied to in-service vehicles on which the same catalyst was installed.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the muffler assembly with the corrected/revised part.
