Defect
The crimp on the retaining bracket of the ball joint connecting the front suspension lower arm to the knuckle is insufficient on affected vehicles. Water intrusion through the inadequate crimp causes rust on the ball, leading to abnormal wear of the resin bearing. In the worst case, the ball joint may fracture and separate from the arm, rendering the vehicle inoperable. (Note: This notification adds newly identified subject vehicles to the recall originally filed on February 15, 2001, as Notification No. 712.)
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the lower arm ball joint. Replace units with significant wear with corrected parts. On units showing no abnormality at inspection, apply sealant to the crimp area.

状況
前輪緩衝装置のロアアームとナックルを連結しているボールジョイントにおいて、保持 金具のかしめに不十分なものがあるため、このままの状態で使用を続けると、当該部分か らの水の侵入によるボールの錆で樹脂ベアリングが異常摩耗し、最悪の場合、ボールジョ イントが破損してアームから外れ、走行不能となるおそれがある。 （備考） 本届出は、平成１３年２月１５日「届出７１２」のリコール届出に新たに対象車を追加す るものである。
改善措置
全車両、当該ロアアームボールジョイントを点検し、摩耗量の大きいものは対策品と交 換する。また、点検で異常のないものについては、当該かしめ部にシール剤を塗布する。
