Defect
On vehicles equipped with a 4-bag air spring suspension system, the ball joint mounting nut securing the V-rod to the rear axle has insufficient clamping strength. Lateral loads during cornering and similar maneuvers cause the nut to loosen. Continued use allows the nut to fall off, separating the V-rod from the axle and degrading directional stability. In the worst case, the axle shifts laterally, causing the tire, wheel, and shock absorber to contact one another. Shock absorber oil may then leak and ignite, resulting in a vehicle fire. (Note: This notification supersedes the recall filed on September 22, 2004 under notification number 1234. The corrective measures from that recall were determined to be insufficient; the remedy content and scope have been revised and are being re-implemented.)
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the V-rod assembly with the corrected part and install a cover to prevent separation. Because full supply of the corrected parts requires additional time, an interim measure will be applied: replace the V-rod with a new unit having increased joint fixing nut torque. The corrected part will be installed at a later date.

状況
4バック式空気ばね緩衝装置付車両の後車軸を車枠に固定するVロッドにおいて、車軸との間のボールジョイント取付けナットの締結強度が不足しているため、車両旋回時等の横荷重により、当該ナットが緩むものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、当該ナットが脱落し、Vロッドと車軸が外れて操縦安定性が損なわれ、最悪の場合、車軸が横方向にずれて、タイヤ、ホイール等とショックアブソーバが接触し、ショックアブソーバのオイルが漏れ引火して、火災に至るおそれがある。 (本届出は、平成16年9月22日に届け出たリコール「届出番号1234」の対策が不十分であったため、対策内容及び対象範囲を見直し、再度対策を実施するものである。)
改善措置
全車両、Vロッド一式を対策品に交換し、離脱防止のためのカバーを装着する。 なお、対策品の全数供給に時間を要するため、当面の暫定措置として、Vロッドを新品(ジョイント固定ナットの締付け力を増大したもの)と交換し、後日、対策品と交換する。
