Filing in context
The Seat Belt is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 55 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 22 Honda notifications from 2002 in this archive. For scale, 138 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 11 months.
Defect
The driver's seat belt buckle (tongue receptacle) was manufactured using an improper process for the internal seat. When fastening the belt, the tongue may not seat correctly, preventing the locking mechanism from operating normally. If a load is applied during a collision or similar event, the belt may release and fail to restrain the occupant.
Corrective action
Replace the driver's seat belt buckle with a conforming part on all vehicles.
