Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Daihatsu & Toyota.
The Seat Belt is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 55 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 7 Daihatsu notifications from 2020 in this archive. For scale, 109 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 9 months.
Defect
The driver's seat belt warning system contains an alert switch inside the buckle that was improperly assembled. Repeated buckling and unbuckling causes abnormal wear on the switch contacts, allowing wear debris to accumulate between them. This debris creates a short circuit across the contacts, which may prevent the warning from canceling even when the seat belt is correctly fastened.
Corrective action
Inspect the buckle on all vehicles. If the condition is confirmed, replace the alert switch inside the buckle or replace the buckle assembly with a corrected part.
