Filing in context

This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mitsubishi & Nissan.

The Computer (powertrain) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 14 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 38 Mitsubishi notifications from 2017 in this archive. For scale, 78 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 6 months.

Issue

In the continuously variable transmission (CVT), the control unit software does not properly manage clutch engagement, causing a delay in clutch coupling inside the CVT. This delay may result in no drive force being transmitted at launch. As a result, when the brake pedal is released on a hill, the vehicle may temporarily roll backward under its own weight.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, reprogram the CVT ECU control software to the corrected specification.
