Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mitsubishi & Nissan.
The Door is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 103 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 38 Mitsubishi notifications from 2017 in this archive. For scale, 603 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 10 months.
Defect
The door latch on the passenger entry/exit door was improperly manufactured, causing certain components to fall outside dimensional tolerances. As temperatures rise, the locking mechanism may become sluggish. As a result, the door may not lock securely, and in the worst case, the door may open while the vehicle is in service.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, the door latch is replaced with a conforming part at locations determined by production period. (Sliding door latches are excluded.) Because replacement parts require time to prepare, owners are notified of the defect and advised to exercise caution until parts become available, at which time the replacement will be performed.
