Filing in context
The Power Transmission is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 6 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 26 Toyota notifications from 2014 in this archive. For scale, 2,176 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 10 months.
Issue
In the power transmission unit, the third-gear shaft has insufficient strength, which may cause a crack to develop in the shaft. Continued use allows the crack to propagate. In the worst case, the third-gear shaft may fracture, causing the vehicle to coast with no drive force and rendering it unable to move after coming to a stop.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the differential case with a corrected part.
