Defect
An incorrect charging control program in the charger allows the drive lead-acid battery to be repeatedly overcharged. This accelerates deterioration of the inter-cell connections inside the battery, eventually causing an internal broken wire and complete loss of power. In the worst case, the vehicle may become inoperable while in motion.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the charger with the corrected part. If the drive lead-acid battery subsequently develops an internal broken wire after charger replacement, replace the battery with a new unit.
