Filing in context
The Automatic Transmission (A/T) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 19 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 36 Mitsubishi notifications from 2003 in this archive. For scale, 588 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 1 month.
Issue
In the automatic transmission parking mechanism, the parking roller rod retention pin has insufficient strength. The pin may develop a crack and, in the worst case, fracture completely. If the pin breaks, the retainer disengages, and the parking mechanism may fail to engage even when the transmission is shifted to the Park position. (Note: This notification adds newly identified affected vehicles to the improvement measures filing originally submitted on November 20, 2001, as Notification No. 195.)
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the parking roller rod with a corrected part.
