Filing in context
The Fuel Injection System is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 23 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 44 Isuzu notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 1,556 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 7 months.
Defect
In the fuel injection system, improper assembly of the injectors during the manufacturing process left excessive clearance between the plunger and barrel on some units. This causes the O-ring to deform and sustain damage, losing its seal. Diesel fuel then mixes into the engine oil. Continued operation in this condition increases the oil volume in the oil pan; the diesel-contaminated oil is then drawn through the blowby hose into the intake manifold, causing engine speed to rise uncontrollably.
Corrective action
All vehicles: replace the injectors with conforming units. Because parts supply will require time, an interim measure is in effect: inspect all vehicles for diesel fuel contamination in the engine oil. On vehicles with confirmed leakage, replace the injector immediately with a conforming unit. On vehicles with no leakage, explain the periodic inspection procedure to the owner and schedule injector replacement at a later date.
Affected models & chassis ranges
This filing lists 2 type code(s). A vehicle is affected if its chassis number falls within one of the ranges below.
