Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Honda & Isuzu.
The Fuel Injection System is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 23 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 17 Honda notifications from 2003 in this archive. For scale, 1,662 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 1 month.
Defect
In the fuel injection system, the O-rings surrounding the injectors have insufficient heat resistance. Over time, the sealing performance of these O-rings degrades, allowing fuel to contaminate the engine oil and increasing the oil volume in the oil pan. Continued operation in this condition allows the fuel-contaminated oil to enter the intake manifold through the blowby hose, which may cause engine speed to rise uncontrollably.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the affected O-rings with the corrected parts.
Affected models & chassis ranges
This filing lists 3 type code(s). A vehicle is affected if its chassis number falls within one of the ranges below.
