Filing in context
The Wiring is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 236 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 40 Isuzu notifications from 2004 in this archive. For scale, 2,683 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 9 months.
Defect
The generator electrical wiring is routed with insufficient length. As a result, engine vibration applies excessive force to the wiring terminal, causing the terminal to fracture. This leads to a loss of charging function and, in the worst case, the engine may stall and be unable to restart. (Note: This notification supersedes the corrective action filed on September 18, 2001 under Notification No. Foreign-901. The prior corrective action was found to be insufficient; the scope of affected vehicles and the corrective measures have been revised accordingly.)
Corrective action
On all vehicles, install a corrected wiring harness supplementing the affected terminal section.
