Defect
The speedometer cable connection nut is improperly tightened due to an incorrect tightening procedure during assembly, resulting in insufficient clamping force. Continued use allows the connection nut to loosen. In the worst case, the cable may detach from the speedometer, causing the speedometer to stop functioning.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the tightening condition of the connection nut between the speedometer and the speed-transmission cable. Any nut found to be loose must be retightened to the specified torque.
