Filing in context
The Speedometer is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 36 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 25 Honda notifications from 2004 in this archive. For scale, 2,974 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 month.
Defect
The calculation software in the digital speedometer's processing unit is incorrectly programmed. If the ignition switch is turned off and then immediately switched on and off repeatedly, or if the ignition is turned off and immediately back on while the trip display toggle button (used to switch between odometer segment, clock, and other displays) is operated, the base data used for vehicle speed calculation may be altered. As a result, the speedometer may indicate a speed substantially lower than actual vehicle speed.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the digital speedometer with the corrected part.
