Defect
The electrical wiring for the generator is incorrectly routed, with insufficient wire length. Engine vibration subjects the wiring terminal to excessive stress. Continued operation in this condition causes the terminal to fracture, disabling battery charging. In the worst case, the engine may stall and be unable to restart.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, a corrected supplemental wiring harness will be added at the affected terminal.
