Filing in context
The Fuel Hose / Pipe is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 62 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 13 Toyota notifications from 2000 in this archive. For scale, 939 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 8 months.
Defect
In the fuel system, the seals at the junctions between the rubber fuel hoses and metal fuel pipes (both supply and return sides) in the engine compartment are improperly formed. Continued use allows fuel to leak from these junctions and, in the worst case, can result in a vehicle fire.
Corrective action
Replace the rubber fuel hoses and metal fuel pipes on all vehicles with corrected parts. Additionally, install a protective case on the portion of the air conditioning line that runs near the fuel hose routing.
