Filing in context
The Horn is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 13 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 10 Toyota notifications from 1998 in this archive. For scale, 1,570 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 9 months.
Defect
The horn has insufficient water resistance. During rain or other wet driving conditions, water intrudes into the horn and causes corrosion of the internal contacts. This prevents the horn from sounding at a consistent volume and tone. In the worst case, the horn fails to sound entirely.
Corrective action
Replace the horn on all vehicles with a corrected part.
