Defect
The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system installed on naturally aspirated engines uses an EGR pipe flange material and an EGR operation control program that are both inappropriate. When the vehicle is repeatedly driven short distances in cold conditions, condensation accumulates on the EGR pipe flange and around the EGR valve opening, causing corrosion. Continued use allows corroded debris to become lodged between the EGR valve and valve seat. In the worst case, the engine may stall while driving and fail to restart.
Corrective action
On all vehicles: (1) Replace the EGR pipe with the corrected part, reprogram the engine control computer with the corrected/updated software, and remove rust from around the EGR valve opening. Because supply of the corrected part requires time, customers who request it may first receive the software update, with the corrected part installed once available. (2) Replace the EGR pipe with the corrected part and remove rust from around the EGR valve opening. Because supply of the corrected part requires time, replacement will be performed once parts are available.

状況
自然吸気エンジンに搭載されている排気ガス再循環装置(EGR)において、EGRパイプフランジ部の材質及びEGRの作動制御プログラムが不適切なため、冷間時の短距離走行を繰り返すと、当該パイプフランジ部とEGRバルブ開口部周辺に凝縮水が付着し、腐食することがある。そのため、そのまま使用を続けると、腐食した破片がEGRバルブとバルブシートの間に噛み込み、最悪の場合、走行中にエンジンが停止し再始動できなくなるおそれがある。
改善措置
①全車両、EGRパイプを対策品と交換し、エンジン制御コンピュータを対策プログラムへ書き換え、EGRバルブ開口部周辺の錆を取り除く。 なお、対策品の供給に時間を要することから、ご希望されるお客様には先行で対策プログラムの書き換えを行い、部品準備が整い次第、改めて案内し対策品と交換する。 ②全車両、EGRパイプを対策品に交換し、EGRバルブ開口部周辺の錆を取り除く。 なお、対策品の供給に時間を要することから、部品準備が整い次第、改めて案内し対策品と交換する。
