Defect

On large refrigerated and frozen truck cargo bodies, the caulking compound applied at the corner rail rivet cover joints was applied in excessive quantities, resulting in insufficient bonding. Under driving loads, the rivet cover lifts away from the corner rail. In the worst case, the rivet cover detaches and hangs down from the corner rail, creating a hazard to other traffic.

Corrective action

1. For vehicles on which corrective action has already been completed: 1) Inspect the rivet cover on all vehicles; if no abnormality is found, secure the rivet cover at the front and center with rivets. 2) Inspect the rivet cover on all vehicles; if an abnormality is found, replace the rivet cover and secure it at both ends and center with rivets. 2. For vehicles on which corrective action has not been completed, and for vehicles added to the expanded scope: 1) Inspect the rivet cover on all vehicles; if no abnormality is found, secure the rivet cover at both ends and center with rivets. 2) Inspect the rivet cover on all vehicles; if an abnormality is found, replace the rivet cover and secure it at both ends and center with rivets.
