Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 4 manufacturers: Hino, Isuzu, Mitsubishi & UD Trucks.
The Other (Frame/Body) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 48 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 25 Hino notifications from 2023 in this archive. For scale, 4,184 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 3 months.
Defect
On tank trucks, the center bearing bracket that supports the intermediate drive shaft connecting the cargo pump drive has incomplete welds due to improper work instructions. The insufficient weld strength allows cracks to develop under driving vibration and similar stresses. Continued use allows the cracks to propagate and, in the worst case, the bracket may detach from the vehicle.
Corrective action
Apply additional welds to all incomplete weld locations.
