Defect
The propeller shaft universal joints on fire pump trucks were manufactured using components without grease grooves, preventing sufficient grease from being injected into the joint. Insufficient lubrication causes the universal joint to fracture. In the worst case, the propeller shaft may detach, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all affected vehicles, replace the complete propeller shaft assembly (both shafts) with corrected parts.
