Defect
During welding of the propeller shaft used in the powertrain of four-wheel-drive vehicles, localized electrode contact caused cracks to form in some propeller shafts. Continued use in this condition may cause the propeller shaft to fracture, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the propeller shaft identification label. On units with serial numbers 94062010001 through 94071310069, replace the propeller shaft with a non-defective unit.
