Defect
On four-wheel-drive vehicles, the front propeller shaft universal joint on the transfer side was designed with insufficient heat protection. During high-load operation — such as high-speed or uphill driving — temperatures at the joint rise and accelerate the degradation of grease lubrication. Continued operation causes progressive wear at the joint, producing play and abnormal noise. In the worst case, the joint fractures and the vehicle becomes inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the front propeller shaft with a revised unit containing high-heat-resistant grease.

状況
①４輪駆動車の前輪駆動用フロントプロペラシャフトにおいて、トランスファ側のユニバーサルジョイント部に対する熱対策が不足していたため、高速走行や登坂走行等の高負荷走行により当該部の温度が上昇した際、グリースの潤滑性の低下が早まるものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、当該ジョイント部の摩耗が進んでガタや異音を生じ、最悪の場合、当該ジョイント部が破損して走行できなくなるおそれがある。
改善措置
①全車両、グリースの耐熱性を向上したフロントプロペラシャフトに交換する。
