Filing in context
The Exhaust pipe is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 32 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 46 Toyota notifications from 2023 in this archive. For scale, 1,143 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 3 months.
Defect
The exhaust manifold pipe section has insufficient strength. Repeated driving under high load and at specific engine speeds—such as on uphill grades where pipe surface temperatures rise excessively—may cause a crack to develop. Continued use may result in exhaust emissions that no longer meet the specified regulatory standards.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe with corrected parts.
